RESUME
In
January 1988, M2A was formed to bring together the varied and
extensive experience of its principals to provide innovative design
solutions for an expanding group of clients. In projects ranging
from commercial to institutional and residential, the firm closely
examines the needs of our clients to produce design solutions
which are uniquely cost effective and responsive to the goals
and objectives of each individual project type.
The
principals of the firm have also developed an expertise in both
the restoration and reuse of historic structures. Their respect
for historic precedence and attention to detail impacts their
philosophy towards all areas of design. This commitment to quality
design infuses the office and staff with an enthusiasm, which
carries through to all phases of the production process.
Thomas
Michali is
a graduate of the Southern California Institute of Architecture
(B. Arch 1977). With a specific interest in the preservation
and reuse of historic structures, Mr. Michali served as chairman
on the Preservation Committee on the Board of Directors for
the Los Angeles Conservancy, and has lectured on the subject
at local and regional conferences. With over twenty years and
a broad range of experience in restoration, rehabilitation and
adaptive reuse, he provides a foundation for the firm's work
in these project types. Barry
Milofsky is a graduate of the University
of Cincinnati (BS. Arch, 1971), and is a Registered Architect
in California and Massachusetts. Projects on which he functioned
as Project Architect have received both National and Regional
design awards. His experience ranges from large scale urban
design projects to cultural facility planning. Mr. Milofsky
has served as visiting juror at numerous architectural schools,
and currently serves on the Hollywood Design Review Board. He
also serves on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Conservancy
and Issues Committee. He previously chaired the Preservation
Issues Committee of Hollywood Heritage.
Andrew
Cox is a graduate of the California State
Polytechnic University (B. Arch, 1988). His experience encompasses
a wide variety of project types from high-end international
corporate office structures and interiors to custom residential
and moderate density housing. Mr. Cox has continued to develop
his expertise in adaptive reuse, renovations, retrofit
of historic buildings and urban infill projects.
M2A's
client list encompasses the full spectrum of city agencies, private
corporations and individuals. The firm has provided design services
for Capitol Records, Regent Properties, Hill/Fields Entertainment
and Elias Studios. Governmental clients include the City of Los
Angeles and its Community Redevelopment Agency, Library Department,
and Housing Department. Additional Civic clients include the Cities
of Ventura, Santa Monica, Pasadena, Ontario and Tracy CA, and
Mesa AZ. Numerous agency and private clients have hired the firm
for multiple projects and project types.
Work
by the firm's principals has received recognition for excellence
in design including preservation awards from the Los Angeles
Conservancy, the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage
Commission, the California Preservation Foundation,
and the State of California Office of Historic Preservation.
Work has appeared in Casa California, AIA
Journal, Architecture, Progressive
Architecture, Los Angeles Architect,
Angeles Magazine, Los Angeles Style,
Los Angeles Business Journal, Daily Variety,
West Hollywood Independent, Los Angeles Times Magazine and
Los Angeles Magazine. Selected projects have been exhibited
