Located in the industrial district adjacent to Downtown Los Angeles, the Little Tokyo loft project converts a circa 1930 Westinghouse Elevator Manufacturing facility for use as 161 units of rental loft housing. Constructed of poured in place concrete, with overscaled mushroom capitol columns and large industrial steel windows, the project captures the character of raw space associated with industrial lofts. Contrasting use of hardwood floors and warm finishes in the uniform kitchen / bath cores will establish a comfortable live / work environment.

A new central light court, carved through the center of the existing floors, is ringed by units with balconies, brings light and air into the middle of the building and provides a terminus for the 2-story galleria leading to the parking garage. A new bridge from the building to the garage passes through and over a grove of trees adjacent to a pool court accessible to the building's tenants.

Construction capitalizes on the scale of the project, but provides a rich variety of unit layouts, from 2-story duplexes to 700 square foot studios with views ranging across the downtown skyline to the San Gabriel Mountains.
