KCET
Los
Angeles, California
One of the property
types most associated with this industry is the studio plant, a
“factory” in which the actual production of films occurs.
The KCET property has housed many different studio companies since
1912, and is the oldest continuously operating movie studio in Hollywood.
The
Historic Core of the KCET site – including the 1917 Indoor
Stage, Studios A and B, the Office Tower, the Corridor offices,
and the Little Theater – is significant because its buildings
exhibit how studios developed throughout Hollywood’s history,
as well as the nature of studios producing films in both the silent
and sound eras of filmmaking.
The
purpose of this Getty funded grant was to evaluate the integrity
and significance of the Historic Core, evaluate the existing conditions
and make recommendations for the preservation, restoration of
the facility while the historic studio buildings are updated with
modern technologies, program needs as well as any future expansion
needs.
